Newsletter for Antioch Charter Academy, TLCS Families and Staff   Volume 13, Issue 16, January 5, 2009

Dear ACA Families and Faculty/Staff,

Welcome back to school in 2009!  Since this is the season for New Year's resolutions, I've been giving some thought to how things "ought" to be for us in the upcoming year.  Here are my thoughts.  I've been doing some reading of the latest Montessori book that the Primary teachers are reading, and also some thinking about our roles as partners in our students' education.  Our mission says that our school is a partnership of the learner, parents, teachers and the community.  As teachers it is our duty to prepare the best possible environment for our students so that they can progress at their own pace and be motivated to learn.  It is also our duty to do everything we can to let students know that we care about them and like them.  Research shows that both elements are very important.  As parents, it is our responsibility to show our children that we value education by being as involved as we can in their education by working at school, helping with projects, helping them with homework, etc.  It is the students' responsibility to complete their work to their personal best capability.  We strive to involve our larger community in field trips, performances, internships, etc.   If we all do our part, the students will do very well and that is our mutual goal.  Happy New Year!  May we all strive to do our personal best to the benefit of the students!

Sincerely,

Debbie Hobin, Co-Administrator, ACA

Yearbook Class Needs Digital Cameras

Parents, if you are thinking about buying a new digital camera this Christmas, maybe you could donate your old digital camera to ACA. The yearbook club needs two or more digital cameras (5.0). They want your old, working digital cameras. Please bring them into the office or Room 1. You can get our tax id number and it can be a tax write-off, so please consider giving us your older digital camera. Thanks, the Yearbook Club.

“Green” Tip Of The Week

Did you know that vinegar is one of the best cleaners?  It also happens to be a great window cleaner.  Pour equal parts vinegar to equal parts water into a spray bottle and clean away!  You can also clean your microwave, kettle, eyeglasses, and lunch boxes.  This is a wonderful alternative to cleaners with chemicals that can harm our environment.
